MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with forward Bobby Farnham on Friday.The five-foot-10, 188-pound right-winger had eight goals and two assists and had 97 penalty minutes in 53 NHL games last season with Pittsburgh and New Jersey.Farnham, 27, a graduate of Brown University, began his career in the Boston Bruins organization in 2011-12 and has spent most of time in the minor leagues.

It looks like the St. John's IceCaps might have gotten a lot tougher to play against with news the parent Montreal Canadiens have signed free-agent forward Bobby Farnham to one-year, two-way contract.The five-foot-10, 188-pound right-winger, who spent all of last season in the NHL, doesn't bring a whole lot of size or offensive skill, with just eight goals and two assists in a total of 64 NHL games split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils.But the swift-skating Farnham is the epitome of a gritty, irritating opponent and one who will regularly drop the gloves, as might be indicated by the 672 penalty minutes he collected in less than 200 AHL games.
