At the start of the season the Montreal Canadiens sent down several players to the American Hockey League who needed to first clear waivers.The players who the Canadiens submitted on waivers included Sven Andrighetto, Marc Barberio, Michael Condon, Max Friberg, Bobby Farnham, Stefan Matteau, Philip Samuelsson, and Chris Terry.Only Condon was claimed, by the Pittsburgh Penguins, while all the other players cleared and were assigned to the St. John's IceCaps in the AHL.

The Montreal Canadiens got in their first practice skate after the holiday break this afternoon, and Andrei Markov's was the most notable absence from the ice.Injured Desharnais, Pateryn, Galchenyuk, Markov, Shaw did not accompany #Habs to Florida today — Dave Stubbs (@Dave_Stubbs) December 27, 2016It's unknown when the injury occurred, as there was no video evidence of the event.By not making the trip south, Markov will likely be out of action until at least January 7 when Montreal returns to Canada to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Al Montoya got his first win in six appearances and it came against his former team.Phillip Danault scored 39 seconds into overtime after Brendan Gallagher tied it late in the third period, leading the Montreal Canadiens over the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Thursday night.Montoya made 31 saves to record his first win since Oct. 26, against the New York Islanders.
